How the Temu security deposit works

Temu holds a refundable deposit that scales with your model, category risk and market β€” plan for it before you commit inventory.

What the deposit covers

Temu requires sellers to post a security deposit (often referenced in RMB) that it can draw on for penalties, refunds and compliance breaches. The amount depends on three levers:

  • Fulfillment model β€” semi-managed carries a far higher base than full-managed (you control more of the chain, so more risk sits with you). The Semi vs Fully Managed calculator compares how the two models affect net profit and the cash tied up.
  • Special category β€” only children's toys (+¥10,000), power banks / batteries (+¥30,000) and memory cards (+¥10,000) are on Temu's officially published 2026-01 special-category schedule. Food / supplements and cosmetics are not on that list, so their amount is set per seller in the backend and must be entered manually.
  • Market β€” selling into Germany adds a CE-related top-up on top of the base. That obligation is the same EU authorized-representative requirement the GPSR label generator builds for your listings.

The formula

Estimated deposit = model base + special-category add-on + Germany CE top-up (if applicable).

Based on Temu's 2025-12 policy revision (effective 2026-01), as reported by industry sources. Temu's officially published special categories cover only children's toys (+¥10,000), power banks / batteries (+¥30,000) and memory cards (+¥10,000). Food / supplements and cosmetics are not on that published list, so no fixed figure is shown β€” enter your backend amount. Special categories follow a "higher of" rule, and the platform can escalate a deposit to as much as RMB 100,000 after recalls, failed tests or counterfeit findings. Amounts are set by Temu per seller β€” editable above. Use the currency selector on the calculator to view estimates in USD / EUR / GBP / JPY. Rates are fetched live (frankfurter.app, falling back to open.er-api.com; static reference rates apply if offline). Not legal or financial advice.

Where to verify these figures (last checked 2026-08): deposit tiers & the special-category list β€” your Temu Seller Center account; Germany CE top-up β€” EU CE-marking guidance. Temu sets per-seller amounts, so treat every figure here as a planning estimate and confirm in your backend before budgeting cash.

Temu Security Deposit β€” FAQ

Is the Temu deposit refundable?
It is a security deposit, so it is generally refundable when you exit the platform in good standing, minus any deductions for penalties or unresolved claims. Treat the held amount as tied-up working capital, not a sunk cost.
Why is semi-managed deposit so much higher?
In semi-managed you own logistics, warehousing and more of the compliance chain, so Temu prices more risk onto your deposit. Full-managed shifts those duties to Temu and carries a smaller base.
What triggers the Germany CE top-up?
Selling regulated goods into Germany adds CE-marking and authorized-representative obligations, which Temu reflects as an extra deposit layer. If you do not sell into Germany, leave that toggle off.
Are these the exact official amounts?
No. They are reference figures from the 2025-12 policy revision (industry reports). Temu's officially published special categories cover only children's toys, power banks / batteries and memory cards β€” food / supplements and cosmetics are not on that list, so no fixed figure is provided for them; enter your own backend amount. The actual amount is set by Temu per seller and category β€” edit the fields to match your situation and confirm with Temu.
How much is the Temu deposit for power banks or batteries in 2026?
Power banks / batteries are a published special category at +¥30,000 on top of the semi-managed base (~¥10,000). Full-managed base is ~¥1,000. Children's toys and memory cards add +¥10,000 each. Food, supplements and cosmetics are not on the published schedule, so enter your backend amount. Use the currency selector to view the estimate in USD / EUR / GBP / JPY.
Why did my Temu security deposit increase for 2026?
Temu's 2025-12 policy revision (effective 2026-01) restructured deposits around fulfillment model, special category and market risk. The platform can also escalate a deposit to as much as RMB 100,000 after recalls, failed tests or counterfeit findings β€” so the published base is only a starting point. Plan the cash tie-up before committing inventory.
