What Etsy actually charges

A $25 item with $5 shipping looks like $30 in your pocket — until the fees land. Etsy takes a $0.20 listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on price + shipping + gift wrap, and a payment-processing fee that varies by country (e.g. 3% + $0.25 in the US, 4% + £0.20 in the UK). On top of that, sellers in some countries pay a regulatory operating fee, cross-border sellers pay a 2.5% currency-conversion fee, and Offsite Ads can add 12–15% (capped at $100). This calculator stacks all of it so the net number is honest.

Regulatory operating fee

Sellers with a bank account in certain countries pay a small percentage of each order to cover Etsy's local compliance costs. The current (2026) rates are: Canada 0.50%, France 1.14%, Hungary 1.97%, Italy 0.80%, India 0.05%, Spain 0.88%, Türkiye 1.67%, United Kingdom 0.48%, Vietnam 1.24%. If your country isn't listed, this fee is zero.

VAT on Etsy's fees

In many countries Etsy must add local VAT/GST to the fees it charges you (separate from any VAT on the item itself). The rate used here is that jurisdiction's standard rate (e.g. UK 20%, Germany 19%, Australia 10% GST, Canada 5% GST). Sellers in most of these countries can avoid it by registering a valid VAT ID with Etsy — toggle "I have a VAT ID" to model that.

Offsite Ads — the big one

If your trailing 365-day sales are under $10,000 you're enrolled at 15% (and can opt out); at $10,000+ it drops to 12% but is mandatory. Either way it's charged only on orders Etsy attributes to its own ads, and never exceeds $100 per order. Turn the toggle on to see the hit — for a typical sale it's the difference between a healthy margin and barely breaking even.

Worked example

US seller, item $25, shipping $5, no Offsite Ads, no subscriptions:

LineAmount
Listing fee$0.20
Transaction fee (6.5% of $30)$1.95
Payment processing (3% + $0.25)$1.15
Net to you$26.70 (89.0% of order)

Add Offsite Ads and the same order costs about $5.45 more — fees jump from ~10% to ~25% of the sale.

Etsy fee calculator — FAQs

The questions sellers ask before they price.

Is this Etsy fee calculator free?+

Yes. It's 100% free, needs no sign-up, and everything runs in your browser — the numbers you type never leave your device. The free version is here to stay; an optional paid (Pro) plan may appear in the future for batch calculations and saved projects, but the calculator itself stays free.

Why does my country show a regulatory operating fee?+

Etsy charges a regulatory operating fee only to sellers whose bank account is in certain countries, to cover local compliance costs. The current rates (2026) are Canada 0.50%, France 1.14%, Hungary 1.97%, Italy 0.80%, India 0.05%, Spain 0.88%, Türkiye 1.67%, UK 0.48%, Vietnam 1.24%. If your country isn't on that list, the fee is zero.

What is "VAT on fees" and can I avoid it?+

In many countries Etsy must add local VAT/GST to the fees it charges you (separate from any VAT on the item). The rate used is that jurisdiction's standard rate. In most of those countries you can avoid it by registering a valid VAT ID with Etsy — tick "I have a VAT ID" to model that. A few countries (e.g. Ireland, Japan, Switzerland, South Africa, Indonesia, Mexico, Serbia, Vietnam, Canada) charge it regardless of VAT ID.

How is the Offsite Ads rate decided?+

It depends on your trailing 365-day Etsy sales, not the individual order. Under $10,000 → 15% (and you can opt out). $10,000+ → 12% (mandatory). Either way it's charged only on orders Etsy attributes to its own ads, and never exceeds $100 per order. Enter your trailing sales and toggle the order on to see the effect.

Does Etsy charge fees on the shipping I collect?+

Yes. The 6.5% transaction fee and the payment-processing fee both apply to shipping (and gift wrap) you charge the buyer, not just the item price. That's why the calculator includes shipping and gift wrap in the fee base.

Is it accurate enough to price with?+

The fee rates come from Etsy's official schedules — payment-processing rates are the published per-country tables, the regulatory operating fee uses Etsy's 2026 rates, and VAT-on-fees uses each jurisdiction's standard rate. Enter your real numbers and it's a reliable planning figure; always confirm against your Payment account statement before you commit a price.
