Wayfair Margin Scenario & Break-Even Calculator
Your wholesale price is set once, but promotion contributions, deductions and CastleGate fees keep eroding it. This calculator turns those leakages into per-unit and monthly net, finds your break-even wholesale price, and shows how a ±price change moves the bottom line.
Your pricing & leakages
Net per unit & break-even
What wholesale price keeps you profitable on Wayfair?
In Wayfair's supplier model you set the wholesale price and Wayfair sets the retail price — so your entire profit is decided before the first order. But the wholesale price is eroded by things outside your price list: promotion contributions (Wayday and other events where suppliers fund discounts), deductions (returns, damages, chargebacks), and, if you use it, CastleGate fees. There are no published benchmark rates for promotion or deduction percentages — which is exactly why this calculator makes them editable knobs. Set your wholesale price, landed cost and the three leakages, and it returns per-unit and monthly net, the break-even wholesale price, and a price sensitivity table.
How the margin scenario works
Wayfair supplier economics are set by four numbers, none of which Wayfair publishes. This tool treats them as your assumptions and shows what they mean per unit.
The numbers it works with
Wholesale price is your only revenue line — Wayfair sets its own retail price on top and pays you the wholesale price per unit sold. Landed cost covers FOB, freight, duty and port fees. Promotions and deductions are the two levers sellers under-budget: Wayfair runs frequent site-wide events that ask suppliers to contribute, and deductions hit payments for returns, damages and chargebacks.
The formula
Net per unit = wholesale × (1 − promotion share − deduction rate) − landed cost − CastleGate fees. The break-even wholesale price is what makes net zero, and the sensitivity table shows how a ±10% price change moves the result.
Where the numbers come from
None of these are published platform fees, so the tool is deliberately all-editable. Promotion participation and deduction rates come from your own Seller Central history; the tool's job is to make the sensitivity visible, not to guess your numbers.
Your profit is set at the wholesale price — and eroded daily
In Wayfair's model the wholesale price is the only revenue you control. Set it against landed cost plus three leakages: promotion contributions (Wayday etc.), deductions (returns/damages/chargebacks) and CastleGate if you use it. This calculator shows both the per-unit truth and the monthly truth, because a thin per-unit margin at high volume still pays rent — and a fat margin at low volume does not.
Break-even is your negotiation floor
The break-even wholesale price (the price where net = 0 after leakages) is the line you defend in pricing discussions. Any event or deduction level that pushes effective price below it is a loss disguised as volume. Re-run the scenario before agreeing to a Wayday contribution, not after.
Sensitivity beats prediction
Deduction and promo rates have no official benchmarks, so don't chase precision — chase the range. The sensitivity row shows how net per unit moves at ±5/10% price; use it to decide how hard to push back on a promo ask or how much a 1-point deduction drop is worth to you.
Every CastleGate cost in one place
CastleGate hides the full cost across unload, positioning, the storage curve and fulfillment by size class. Each calculator surfaces one Wayfair cost before it eats your margin.

Wayfair supplier economics are decided by four editable inputs — none of them are published platform fees, so treat every number as your own assumption: wholesale price (what Wayfair pays you per unit — the only revenue line; Wayfair sets its own retail price on top), landed cost (FOB + freight + duty + port fees, see the CN→US Landed Cost calculator), CastleGate cost per unit if you fulfill from CG (see the CastleGate Fee Calculator), promotion contribution % (Wayday / seasonal events where suppliers fund part of the discount — there is no published standard; use your campaign statements), and deduction rate % (returns, damages, chargebacks against revenue — again no published benchmark; use your Partner Home ledger). There is no referral commission on Wayfair. Sensitivity: a 1-point deduction-rate change can erase more margin than a 1% price change, which is why the sensitivity table matters."
Wayfair Margin Scenario & Break-Even Calculator — FAQ
Does Wayfair take a commission on top of my wholesale price?
No — Wayfair does not charge a referral or commission. You set the wholesale price, Wayfair sets its retail price and pays you the wholesale price. The margin killers are the leakages this calculator models: promotion contributions, deductions, and CastleGate fees if you use CG.
What is a fair promotion contribution %?
There is no published standard — Wayday and seasonal events ask suppliers to fund part of the discount, and the ask varies by category and event. Use your campaign statements; 2-6% is a common working range but treat it as your own number, not a rule.
How do I find my deduction rate?
Pull your Partner Home ledger / statement for returns, damages and chargebacks over a few months and divide by revenue. There is no official benchmark; 1-5% is typical for furniture but yours may differ.
Is this an official Wayfair tool?
No — it is SellHandy's planning calculator. Every input is an editable assumption; Wayfair publishes no standard promo or deduction rates, so your own ledger is the only source of truth.
Why does break-even wholesale price matter?
Because it is the floor for negotiations with Wayfair's pricing team and for deciding whether an event or deduction level is worth accepting. If a promo brings your effective price below break-even, the volume it generates is losing you money.
