What does a container of Chinese furniture really cost landed in the US?
Wayfair suppliers buy from China factories and the real question is never the FOB price — it is the landed cost: FOB + ocean/air freight (charged on the greater of actual or volumetric weight) + US import duty (Section 301 has added tariffs on Chinese furniture) + destination-port fees. How the landed cost calculator works
A Wayfair supplier has no referral commission, so the real cost question is what a container of goods costs once it is in the US. This tool stacks freight, duty and port fees onto FOB.
The numbers it works with
Ocean freight is quoted per container (FCL) or per CBM (LCL); air is per kilogram on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Import duty is a percentage of FOB plus freight — Section 301 put an extra 25% on most Chinese furniture (HS 9403) since 2020, but exemptions vary by line. Port and local fees cover clearance, drayage and ISF.
The formula
Landed cost per unit = FOB + freight per unit + duty (FOB + freight) × rate + port fees per unit. Distribution then adds CastleGate fees or your own last-mile cost, and the tool shows both the landed number and the fully-distributed number.
