Newegg China to US Landed Cost Calculator

A $25 FOB price is meaningless until freight, duty and port fees land it in a US warehouse. This calculator turns your carton into a true landed cost per unit, then applies the distribution mode — SBN, US 3PL or direct ship.

Landed cost per unit

⚠️ Duty rates (incl. Section 301 on electronics and the de-minimis rule change), freight quotes and port fees change constantly. This calculator uses editable defaults — confirm your current HTS line duty rate, freight quote and port charges before pricing. Not legal or financial advice.

What does a container of Chinese electronics really cost landed in the US?

Newegg sellers mostly source from China, and the real question is never the factory price — it is the landed cost: FOB + freight (charged on the greater of actual and volumetric weight) + US import duty (Section 301 tariffs on electronics have been changing through 2025-26) + destination port fees. This calculator chains the same math as the CBM / volumetric / HS / duty tools into one number per unit, then adds your Newegg distribution mode — SBN, a US 3PL warehouse, or direct-from-China fulfillment.

How the landed cost calculator works

A Newegg seller's real cost base is what a shipment costs once it is in the US, before any commission is applied. This tool stacks freight, duty and port fees onto FOB.

The numbers it works with

Ocean freight is quoted per container (FCL) or per CBM (LCL); air is per kilogram on the greater of actual and volumetric weight. Import duty is a percentage of FOB plus freight — Section 301 put an extra 7.5% on many Chinese electronics lines since 2022, but lists and exemptions have shifted through 2025-26. Port and local fees cover clearance, drayage and ISF.

The formula

Landed cost per unit = FOB + freight per unit + duty (FOB + freight) × rate + port fees per unit. Distribution then adds SBN, 3PL or direct-ship cost per unit, and the tool shows both the landed number and the fully-distributed number.

Where the numbers come from

Freight quotes, duty rates and port fees change constantly, so they are editable defaults rather than fixed facts. Distribution-mode defaults reflect Newegg's SBN fee schedule and typical 3PL quotes; verify your own.

Freight mode is a volume decision

Once volume is meaningful, the per-container rate usually crushes per-CBM LCL, and air is only for samples or urgent restock. Run the same carton through FCL vs LCL before committing to a lane.

Duty is your most volatile line

Section 301 tariffs on Chinese electronics are real (7.5% on many lines), but the exact HTS line decides everything — some categories were excluded, some have phase-out dates, and the de-minimis change hits direct-ship lanes. Verify the line before treating duty as a fixed cost.

Distribution mode feeds the margin tool

Landed cost per unit is one input to the margin calculator. Run it once, then compare SBN vs 3PL vs direct ship there — the fulfillment comparison tool prices all three modes per unit.

Every Newegg fee & fulfillment number in one place

Newegg hides the full cost across commission, the $0.29 order fee, SBN fulfillment tiers and payout timing. Each calculator surfaces one Newegg number before it eats your margin.

China → US electronics: what actually drives landed cost (2026)

Newegg charges a commission on the sale price, so your real cost base is the landed cost — it stacks: FOB (factory/port price) + ocean freight (charged per CBM on the greater of actual and dimensional weight — electronics are dense but air parcels are billed on volumetric kg, so the box matters) + US import duty (Section 301 added tariffs on most Chinese electronics: many lines carry an extra 7.5% since 2022, with lists and exemptions shifting through 2025-26 — treat duty % as editable and verify the current HTS line) + destination port & local fees (clearance, drayage, ISF etc.). Distribution then adds either SBN fulfillment, a US 3PL warehouse, or direct shipping — see the Newegg fulfillment comparison for the per-unit math.

Figures here are editable defaults — pull your actual freight quote, HTS duty rate and port fees before pricing. The China IEEPA de-minimis removal (Section 321, effective 2025) also affects how parcels are taxed for direct-ship models — budget for duty collection on those lanes.

Newegg China to US Landed Cost Calculator — FAQ

Does Newegg charge a commission on top of landed cost?

Yes — Newegg charges a category commission on the sale price (8-12% for US sellers, see the margin calculator). Landed cost is your cost base before that commission, so compute both: landed cost per unit here, then run the same numbers through the margin calculator with your sale price.

How is freight charged for electronics?

Ocean freight is quoted per CBM (LCL) or per container (FCL); air is per kg on the greater of actual and volumetric weight (≈166.67 kg per CBM). Electronics are dense, so air is rarely worth it beyond samples — the volumetric calculation here shows you exactly where the break-even is.

What duty applies to Chinese electronics in 2026?

Section 301 added tariffs on most Chinese electronics — many HTS lines carry an extra 7.5% since 2022, and lists/exemptions shifted through 2025-26. The de-minimis (Section 321) change also affects direct-ship lanes. Enter your category's current duty % — verify the HTS line, not a blog.

Is this an official Newegg tool?

No — SellHandy's planning calculator with editable defaults. Confirm your freight quote, current HTS duty rate and port charges before pricing.

Which distribution mode should I pick?

SBN gives Newegg-fulfilled speed and Prime-like trust but adds fulfillment fees per unit; a US 3PL is usually cheaper per pick for high volume; direct-from-China saves US storage but ships slowly and now carries duty-collection risk on small parcels. The fulfillment comparison tool prices all three.
