The numbers it works with
SBN fulfillment is charged per unit by size tier on the greater of actual and volumetric weight, plus monthly storage per cubic foot and an optional free-shipping enabler. Self-ship and 3PL are single editable per-unit rates that cover the full lane (China→US incl. last mile, or inbound + storage + pick & ship).
The formula
SBN per unit = fulfillment fee (by tier & weight) + free-shipping enabler (if enabled) + storage (box cubic feet × monthly rate). The tool compares that against your self-ship and 3PL inputs, per unit and per month.
Where the numbers come from
SBN figures are the official 2026 published schedule (editable defaults); self-ship and 3PL are your own quotes. Volumetric weight uses SBN's 166 in³/lb divisor.
SBN's hidden costs are storage and Q4
The per-unit fulfillment fee is only part of SBN — storage is billed per cubic foot monthly and triples in Oct-Dec. Pre-shipping for peak season means paying the $2.00 rate on inventory you haven't sold yet; factor that into the lane decision.
Free shipping is a fee you can switch off
The Free Shipping Enabler is only charged when you offer free shipping on SBN orders. If your competitors don't offer free shipping on the same products, dropping it saves $0.61-$121 per unit — but check the conversion cost of a shipping fee at checkout first.
