TikTok Shop Break-Even ROAS Calculator

Before you run GMV Max or Spark Ads, know the ROAS at which you stop making money. Ads are charged on gross sales and returns do not refund ad spend, so the calculator models that reality.

What is a break-even ROAS on TikTok Shop?

Break-even ROAS is the revenue-to-ad-spend ratio at which advertising exactly pays for itself: 1 divided by your net margin. Because TikTok charges ads on gross sales and does not refund ad spend on returns, the safe ROAS target is higher than sellers usually expect. This calculator works it out from your price, fees, return rate and ad spend, and shows the net margin left after ads.

Your ad targets

⚠️ TikTok charges ads on gross sales: returns reduce your revenue but do not refund ad spend. Break-even ROAS = 1 / net margin, computed on post-return revenue. Defaults are illustrative; use your own rates.

How the break-even ROAS works

Most TikTok Shop sellers run GMV Max and spend 5–20% of revenue on ads. Two platform rules make the ROAS math stricter than it looks: ads are charged on gross sales, and returns do not refund ad spend.

The numbers it works with

Because ad spend is charged on gross sales and survives returns, the break-even must be computed on post-return net margin rather than list price. A seller pricing a $30 product with 25% net margin and a 10% return rate needs a materially higher ROAS than the margin alone suggests.

The formula

Break-even ROAS = 100 ÷ net margin % (net of platform fees, returns and landed cost). The tool then applies your ad-spend share to show the actual ROAS you need from paid traffic, and what revenue per day that implies at your ACoS.

Where the numbers come from

The gross-sales ad charge and the no-refund-on-returns rule come from TikTok Shop's advertising terms. Platform fees and return rate are inputs that shift the result more than any default.

TikTok Shop fees in 2026 — the quick summary

In 2026 most TikTok Shop sellers run GMV Max and allocate 5–20% of revenue to ads. Two platform rules change the ROAS math: ads are charged on gross sales, and returns do not refund ad spend. So break-even ROAS must be computed on post-return net margin, not list price — most sellers underestimate it by several points. There is no minimum spend, and ad fees stack on top of the referral fee (6% US / 9% UK / 9% EU since 2026-01-08). Figures are editable defaults; see the TikTok Shop Seller Center for current ad rules.

TikTok Shop Break-Even ROAS Calculator — FAQ

What is a good ROAS on TikTok Shop?

Ignore the 3x and 5x benchmarks you see online. The only honest target is your break-even ROAS plus a safety buffer, which this calculator computes from your actual margin.

Does return rate change my break-even ROAS?

Yes, twice. Returns reduce revenue while ads are charged on gross sales and not refunded, so a 10% return rate raises your break-even ROAS noticeably. The calculator applies your return rate before computing margin.

Should I use target ROAS or manual CPC on TikTok?

GMV Max and Shop Ads favor target ROAS bidding, which the platform optimizes for you. Use the calculator's recommended target as your setting and recheck it whenever your unit economics change.

What is a good ROAS for TikTok Shop?

A good target ROAS is your break-even ROAS plus a margin buffer — the calculator shows both. For most products break-even lands between 2 and 3, and a healthy target is 1.2–1.5× that. Below break-even, ads are losing money even if the numbers look "profitable" on gross revenue.
