  • Payment processing for a German bank is 4% + €0.30.

What German sellers pay

Etsy's base fees are the same for everyone. There's a €0.20 listing fee per item, a 6.5% transaction fee on the item, shipping and gift wrap, and a payment-processing fee. For a German bank account that processing fee comes to 4% + €0.30. Unlike the UK, Germany has no regulatory operating fee, because it isn't on Etsy's list of charged countries. German sellers still pay 19% VAT on Etsy's fees, the German standard rate, which a registered VAT ID waives. If you list in a currency other than your payout currency you'll also lose 2.5% to conversion, and any order that arrives through Offsite Ads adds 12–15% (capped at $100).

Worked example — a €25 order

A German seller lists an item at €25 with €5 shipping, no Offsite Ads and no VAT ID registered:

LineAmount
Order total€30.00
Listing fee€0.20
Transaction fee (6.5%)€1.95
Payment processing (4% + €0.30)€1.50
Regulatory operating fee€0.00
VAT on fees (19%)€0.69
Net to you€25.66 (85.5%)

Switch on Offsite Ads for this order and the charge lands around €5.35 once VAT is included (15% of the total, plus 19% on the fee itself), pulling net down to about €20.30. The calculator below lets you try every combination.

Pricing tip for German sellers

Etsy adds 19% VAT on top of its own fees, so build that into your price. Register a VAT ID with Etsy and the VAT comes off entirely under Germany's reverse-charge rules. The VAT-ID toggle shows the difference at once.

German seller FAQs

The Germany-specific questions before you price.

Do German Etsy sellers pay VAT on Etsy's fees?+

Yes. Etsy adds 19% VAT, the German standard rate, to the fees it charges you. That's on top of any VAT on the item itself. Hand Etsy a valid VAT ID and that fee VAT goes away, because German sellers fall under the reverse-charge rules. Flip the "I have a VAT ID" switch in the calculator to see it.

Is there a German regulatory operating fee?+

No. Germany is not on Etsy's regulatory operating fee list. Only shops with a bank account in Canada, France, Hungary, Italy, India, Spain, Türkiye, the UK or Vietnam pay it — so a German shop's regulatory fee is always zero.

Why is my payment-processing fee 4% + €0.30?+

That is Etsy's published domestic German rate for payment processing. It applies to the full order total (item + shipping + gift wrap), the same base the 6.5% transaction fee uses.

Can I avoid the 19% VAT on fees?+

Yes — register a valid VAT ID with Etsy. Germany is one of the countries where a registered VAT ID exempts seller-fee VAT, so the calculator's VAT-ID toggle removes it.

Germany tax context for Etsy sellers

German VAT (Umsatzsteuer) and Etsy

Germany's standard Umsatzsteuer is 19%. Small sellers can use the Kleinunternehmerregelung (about €22,000 turnover) to stay VAT-exempt and avoid charging VAT on goods — but for Etsy's own fees the reverse-charge rule still applies once you hold a valid VAT ID. Cross-border EU sales follow the OSS scheme once you exceed the €10,000 EU threshold.

Unlike the UK, Germany is not on Etsy's regulatory operating fee list, so your regulatory fee is always zero.
